Nihonyochizu

These are maps produced and collected by Mori Koan from Kanen Era to Horeki Era (1748 - 1763). He borned in Kyoto in 14th year of Genroku (1701), later moved to Takatsu in Osaka and produced maps while walking in Kyoto and Osaka. These maps were integrated. Koan collected maps of various parts of entire Japan and of the world. The National Archives possess 222 maps collected by Koan. In blank spaces of the maps, related Information of the maps is written minutely in Chinese characters. The maps were purchased by Geography Bureau of Ministry of the Home Affairs in 11th year of Meiji (1878), later transferred to Cabinet Library, which was in charge of Cabinet Records Bureau in 1890.
