Shintei Bankoku zenzu
This map of the world was drawn by Takahashi Kageyasu (1785 - 1829) at the order of the Tokugawa Shogunate in the 4th year of Bunka (1807), together with Hazama Shigetomi (1756 - 1816) and Baba Sajuro (1787 - 1822). It is based on a British map published in 1780, with the addition of information from Mamiya Rinzo's survey of Sakhalin, etc. The copperplate prints were made in the 7th year of Bunka (1810) by Aodo Denzen (1748 - 1822), a copperplate printer who hailed from Sukagawa in Mutsu Province and was the first in Japan to make detailed Western-style copperplate prints. It is designed so that Japan is in the middle of the eastern and western spheres. In the four corners are charts depicting the south pole, north pole, Kyoto, and the area centered around points behind Kyoto.
