On April 1, 2019, in accordance with the Era Name Act a cabinet decision was made to issue a cabinet order to change the era name to“Reiwa”. On that day, Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga Yoshihide of the Abe Shinzou Cabinet announced the new era name at the Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary.
