- In December 1885, due to the establishment of the Cabinet System, the Council-Chamber was repealed and the Cabinet Legislation Bureau was newly set up under the Cabinet Legislation Bureau Edict. In February 1948, the Establishment Law of the Legislation Agency (1947 Law No. 193) was put into effect, under which the Legislation Bureau and the Ministry of Justice were integrated and the Legislation Bureau was separated from the Cabinet. In June 1949, the Legislation Agency was transformed into the Office of Justice. In August 1952, the Establishment Law of the Legislation Bureau (1952 Law No. 252) was put into effect under which the Legislation was once again placed in the Cabinet. The First Department, the Second Department, the Third Department, and the Administration Office of the Director-General were set up. In July 1962, it was renamed the Cabinet Legislation Bureau. In addition to these, the Fourth Department was newly set up.
