- With the enactment of "Law Concerning Temporary Measures for Promoting the Reconstruction of Operations Administrated by Japan National Railways, " in May 1983, Supervisory Committee for Japan National Railways Reconstruction was established on June 1, 1983 in the Prime Minister's Office, and dissolved on March 31, 1987.

- Documents created and preserved by the Secretariat of the Reconstruction Supervision Committee for Japan National Railways. Included in this unit are a series of documents that indicate the process of deliberations on the privatization of Japanese National Railway, including the outline of the committee, such as notes of developments after the formation of a preparatory office in 1972; records of deliberations in Diet sessions, including statements in the sessions; first and second urgent proposals, as well as records of deliberations on opinions about the reform of Japanese National Railways preserved by the revenue/expenditure and long-term debt units; and records of deliberations at the meetings of the revenue/expenditure forecast committee and the division committee.
