- Due to administrative reform in July 1984, national railways operations were separated from the Ministry of Transport Railway Bureau, and the National Railway Department was established in the Minister's Secretariat which changed its name to the Office for Promotion of Japan Railway Reform in April 1987. It merged into the Railway Bureau in July 1991.

- Documents related to the takeover of Japan National Railway operations by private Japanese Railways founded on April 1, 1987. They are divided into two parts: execution plans and catalogs/drawings. The catalogs contain descriptions of assets and operations, etc., such as the railways and bus routes taken over, the volumes of trains, and details of the operations of station buildings and other establishments.
