- The Ministry of Finance was established in 1869. Based on the Ministry of Finance Edict of February 1886, the Minister's Secretariat, General Affairs Bureau, Accounting Bureau, the Tax Bureau, the Custom and Tariff Bureau, the Budget Bureau, Cashiering Bureau, the Securities Bureau, Treasury Bureau, the Banking Bureau, National Savings Bureau, and Archives Bureau were set up. Based on the Law to Establish the Ministry of Finance of June 1949, the Minister's Secretariat, the Budget Bureau, the Tax Bureau, the Financial Bureau, the Administration Bureau, and the Banking Bureau were established as internal bureaus. As the external bureaus, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the National Tax Agency, the Mint Agency, and the Printing Agency were set up. Prior to restructuring in the central government ministries and agencies of 2001, the finance-related administrative structure was reorganized and, in January 2001, it was renamed into the Ministry of Finance.
