- The River Bureau was set up in January 2001 as part of the government's overall administrative reform.In July 2011, the Water and Disaster Management Bureau was established by integrating the following bureaus and departments: the River Bureau, the Water Resources Department of the Land and Water Bureau, and the Sewerage and Wastewater Management Department of the City and Regional Development Bureau.This reflects the ministry's shift in policy reduce dependence on dam construction. Also aimed is to streamline water control administration to promote total management in of a river basin extending over several jurisdictions.
