- The Food and Agricultural Materials Inspection Center (FAMIC) was established in 2007 by integrating of three incorporated administrative agencies; the Center for Food Quality, Labeling and Consumer Service; the Fertilizer and Feed Inspection Services; and The Agricultural Chemicals Inspection Station.One of the forerunners of the Center, the Center for Food Quality, Labeling and Consumer Service was started as Yushutsuhin Kensajo (Export Inspection Office) in 1951 by integrating Yusyutsu Shokuryohin Kensajo (Inspection Office of Export Food Products) and Yusyutsu Norinsuisanbutsu Kensajo (Inspection Office for Export Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries Products), both of which were established in 1949. Changing its name to Norin Kikaku Kensajo (Agricultural Standards Inspection Office) in 1972, it combined operations with Kiito Kensajo (Raw Silk Inspection Office) in 1980, and became the Center for Food Quality, Labeling and Consumer Service in 1991.Then, the Center became an incorporated adminsitrative agency in 2001.The Fertilizer and Feed Inspection Services was set up by consolidating of the following two organs in 1963;: Hiryo Kensajo (Fertilizer Inspection Office) founded in 1947 and Shiryo Kensajo (Feed Inspection Office) founded in 1960. The Services became as an incorporated adminsitrative agency in 2001. Agricultural Chemicals Inspection Station was started as Hiryo Kensajo (Fertilizer Inspection Office) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 1947, and became Noyaku Kensajo (Agricultural Chemicals Inspection Office) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 1988. iIt became an incorporated adminsitrative agency in 2001.
