- The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications was set up when the central government undertook major reorganization in January 2001 by integrating the Management and Coordination Agency, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The internal departments include the Minister's Secretariat, the Personal and Pension Bureau, the Administrative Management Bureau, the Administrative Evaluation Bureau, the Local Administration Bureau, the Local Public Finance Bureau, the Local Tax Bureau, the Information and Communication Policy Bureau, the Telecommunication Bureau, the Postal Services Policy and Planning Bureau, the Statistic Bureau, Director-General for Policies, and Director-General for the Japan Post. Its external bureaus were the Japan Fair Trade Commission, the Environmental Dispute Coordination Commission, the Postal Services Agency, and the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.On April 1, 2003, the Japan Fair Trade Commission was incorporated under the Cabinet Office as its external bureau. Also, the Director-General for Postal Service and the Postal Service Agency were abolished when the Japan Post was established.
