- The General Food Policy Bureau was set up in January 2001, to administer stable food supply, consumer affairs, food distribution, promotion of the industry, food labeling, food standards, commodity investment etc. In response to the 2003 revision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Establishment Act which abolished the Food Agency, the Staple Food Department was established in under the General Food Policy Bureau to administer staples.By abolishing the General Food Policy Bureau and staples-related sections in under the Regional Agricultural Administration Offices, the Food Industry Affairs Bureau was established on September 1, 2011, in order to streamline administration of agricultural and livestock productions, and to promote diversification of agriculture, forestry and fishery.
