- Following separation of the transport division and the communication division of the Ministry of Transport and Communication on May 19, 1945, the Ministry of Transport was established. (The Ministry of Transport and Communication was established in November 1943, through consolidation of the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Communications, Vehicles Mobilization Project from Planning Board, the customs office from the Ministry of Finance, the port and harbour sections from the Ministry of the Interior, the warehouse and rolling stock manufacturing sections from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the meteorological sections from the Ministry of Education, and others.) In June 1949, the Law for the Establishment of the Ministry of Transport was enacted. The internal bureaus at the time of enactment included the Minister's Secretariat, the Sea Transport Bureau, the Shipping Bureau, the Seafarers Bureau, the Ports and Harbours Bureau, Railway Inspection Bureau, and the Automobile Bureau. The external bureaus included the Labour Relations Commission for Seafarers, the Coast Guard, and the Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency. Due to restructuring of the central government ministries and agencies of January 2001, they were consolidated into the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
