Sample of the bill attached to the document asking for issueing of 5 yen bill submitted in June in the 10th year of Meiji (1877) to the Grand Council of the State by the Ministry of Finance. Designed by Edoardo Chiossone, an Italian foreign advisor hired by the government, front design has "a smith" and back "Ebisu". It was issued on July 2 in the 11th year of Meiji, and terminated on December 9 in the 32nd year of Meiji (1899).
