- 2. Browsing and printing, download of digitized Images
2-2. View Digitized Images
By clicking browse button Browsein the Search Results screen or the Detailed Information screen, the following screen is displayed.
You can choose the image format of JPEG or PDF.
*Note JPEG format is default.
*Note If you still cannot view PDF images, please install a PDF plug-in such as Adobe Acrobat Reader.

2-2-1. Upper frame
On upper frame, title of the file and selection of image format are shown.

Book Title | Title of the selected Files. |
---|---|
Files details | Displays the file details of the image being displayed. |
Image format button | JPEG / PDF format is available. By clicking this button, you can change a format of image that you are watching. |
Top of Items | Jump to the first item. |
Previous Item | Move to the previous item. |
Number of items in files and nth | Number of items in files and nth. |
Item | Title of the item. |
Next Item | Move to the next item. |
Last of Items | Jump to the last item. |
Displays the image print screen you are viewing. | |
Download | Displays the download screen for the image you are viewing. |
2-2-2. Browse in JPEG format
Choosing JPEG format, you can browse images on any browser that supported.
When the size of PDF is too large, a thumbnails and list of files is displayed and the images isn't displayed.
You can do scaling a image by mouse wheel operation.

You can do the following operation by the buttons in the upper part of the images.

- Move to the top page.
- Move to the previous page
- Jump to the specified page
- Move to the next page
- Move to the last page.
- Zoom in
- Zoom out
- Displays in full screen.
- Rotate the image 90 degrees to the left.
- Rotate the image 90 degrees to the right.
In the National Archives of Japan Digital Archive, URI is given to the image viewing page in JPEG format.
For more information about URIs, please refer to "Terms".

For documents that have images, you can link directly to the corresponding page by specifying the URI and the number of pages.
Example of how to link to the second page of the document on the JPEG image viewing page "ID: 2810608".

2-2-3. Browse in PDF format
Choosing PDF format, images is displayed by your browser or PDF plug-in.
When the size of PDF is too large, a thumbnails and list of files is displayed and the images isn't displayed.
If you want to browse the PDF images, click the file name and download it.
*Note In this PDF format, image data of all pages are downloaded at a time. Download time depends on your circumstances, may take minutes or 20-30 minutes.

You can do the following operation by the buttons in the upper part of the images.
2-2-4. View High-Definition Images
By clicking browse (Large Size) buttonBrowse (Large Size)in the Search Results screen or the Detailed Information screen, the following screen is displayed.

The type of High-Definition Images
There are three kinds of types for High-Definition images, and you can use different functions by a type.
The above screen shows a type of "Document"
Documents (Bunsho) | The image contains multiple pages. You can move a page by toolbar. The side bar (described later) is displayed when you are browsing the image that is "Documents" type. |

Picture scroll (Emakimono) | It's an oblong images. There is an oblong pan window. |
Domain maps (Kuniezu) | The images close to square. |
Pan Windows (Yellow frame)
The color inverted area of the Pan Window is the area which is being displayed to a screen actually.
You can move a display area smoothly by dragging a color inverted area.
*Note The Pan Window isn't shown on a smartphone browser.
Side bar (Green frame)
When you are browsing "Documents" type image (That contains multiple pages), the side bar is displayed.
By clicking the image on the thumbnails, you can move to the page you clicked.
Toolbar (Red frame)
The buttons for various functions are integrated to this toolbar.

- Zoom-inZoom in by step.
- Zoom-outZoom out by step.
- General ViewImages can be displayed to fit the viewer's size.
- Full-screen modeChange the Full-screen mode
- Rotation to leftRotate image (90 degrees to Left).
- Rotation to rightRotate image (90 degrees to Right).
Download (blue frame)
Click on the Download buttonDownloadwill display the following dialog box, which allows you to download images in JPEG or JPEG2000 format.
*Note If the image is large, the download may fail.
In this case, please wait 10 seconds after the dialog opens and clickdownload

2-2-5. Browsing Electronic Public Records
When you click the Browse button Browse on the Electronic Public Records Browsing Search Result List screen or the Detailed Information Display screen, the following Electronic Public Records Browsing screen is displayed in a separate window.

By selecting the electronic official document you wish to view from the tree view on the right side of the screen, the electronic official document will be displayed on the right side of the screen.
You can only view "General availability format".
2-2-6. Viewing audio and video data
Clicking on the Browse button Browse on the search result list screen or the detailed information screen will display the following audio and video data screen in a separate window.

By selecting the audio/video data you want to play from the tree display on the right side of the screen, the audio/video data will be played on the right side of the screen.
