- The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry was established following reorganization of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry based on restructuring of the central government ministries and agencies in January 2001. The internal bureaus include the Minister's Secretariat, the Economic and Industrial Policy Bureau, the Trade Policy Bureau, the Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, the Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau, the Manufacturing Industries Bureau, and the Commerce and Information Policy Bureau. As the external bureaus, the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, the Japan Patent Office, and the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency were set up.
