- On September 1, 1945, based on the Cabinet Research Office Edict, the Cabinet Research Office was set up by succeeding the staff of the Planning Bureau. The Cabinet Research Office was to take charge of research and planning of major issues concerning postwar management as well as coordination/adjustment of governmental works concerning postwar management for each agency. This office was repealed on November 24, 1945, when the Cabinet Councilors' Office was set up in the Cabinet Secretariat based on the revision of the "Ordinance to Establish the Provisional Personnel under the Cabinet" (1945 Edict No.645). The scope of duties of the Cabinet Councilor's Office was to include overall coordination of governmental works concerning major policies.<BR>On August 12, 1946, the Economic Stabilization Bureau was established under the Economic Stabilization Bureau Act (1946 Edict No. 380). The Economic Stabilization Bureau was to take charge of governmental works on planning of emergency facilities for economic stabilization concerning material production/distribution and consumption, labor, commodity prices, finance, transportation, and others as well as office duties concerning overall coordination, etc. of governmental works. Together with the Price Agency having been established at the same time, it was evolved into the Economic Stabilization Bureau on June 1, 1949 based on the Establishment Law of the Economic Stabilization Bureau (1949 Law No.164).
