- Due to the reorganization of government ministries and agencies of January 2001, the Prime Minister's Office, the Economic Planning Agency and the Okinawa Development Agency were integrated, and the Cabinet Office was established by taking over a part of the Management and Coordination Agency/the Science and Technology Agency/the National Land Agency, also added with planning and overall coordinating functions. The Cabinet Office consists of the Minister's Secretariat, four bureaus (Decoration Bureau, Gender Equality Bureau, Quality-of-Life Policy Bureau and Okinawa Development and Promotion Bureau), seven Directors General, the extraordinary organs, and others, within which four major policy councils including the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy, the Council for Science and Technology Policy, the Central Disaster Management Council, and the Council for Gender Equality are placed.
