- The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport was established through consolidation of 4 agencies and ministries: the Hokkaido Development Agency, the National Land Agency, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Construction. The internal bureaus consist of the Minister's Secretariat, the Policy Bureau, the National and Regional Planning Bureau, the Land and Water Bureau, the City and Regional Development Bureau, the River Bureau, the Road Bureau, the Housing Bureau, the Railway Bureau, the Road Transport Bureau, the Maritime Bureau, the Ports and Harbours Bureau, the Civil Aviation Bureau, the Hokkaido Bureau, and the Director-General for Policy Planning. As the external bureaus, the Coast Guard, the Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency, the Labour Relations Commission for Seafarers, and the Meteorological Agency were set up.On October 1, 2008, the Japan Tourisim Agency was newly inaugurated. Also, the Japan Transport Safty Board (JTSB) was established by reorganizing the Japan Aircraft and Railway Accidents Investigation Commission (ARAIC) and the Japan Marine Accident Inquiry Agency (JMAIA). At the same time, the Labour Relations Commission for Seafarers was abolished and its operations were transferred to the Central Labour Relations Commission, the the Council of Transport Policy and so on.On July 1, 2011, "the Water and Disaster Management Bureau" was established by uniting the River Bureau, the Water Resources Department of the Land and Water Bureau, and the Sewerage and Wastewater Management Department of the City and Regional Development Bureau, in order to streamline water control administrations. Also, land administration sections under the Land and Water Bureau and construction industry sections under the Policy Bureau were reorganized into the Land Economy and Construction and Engineering Industry Bureau. The National and Regional Plannning Bureau and the City and Regional Development Bureau changed to "the National and Regional Policy Bureau " and "the City Bureau" respectively. "The Road Transport Bureau" changed its original Japanese name.
